Legends of tomorrow

I will preface this by saying I am not a bandwagon sorta guy.. I don't watch tv shows just because other people are. I have never seen an episode of breaking bad or Game of thrones or whatever people out there binge watch..

I will also confess that I'm not a comic book movie guy.. I think the last one I actually saw was the avengers???

So I was hesitant to watch a tv series on netflix about superheros from DC comics .. I mean I did watch "arrow" and "daredevil".. but only for a season or two at best.

So last night I decided to watch " legends of tomorrow".
..I mean why not rip off one of the longest sci fi franchises of all time.. doctor who. I mean that was my initial thoughts anyway.....
rouge time agent that disagrees with the time council's decision to not mettle.. he literally steals a time traveling ship...
(add a few pepper pots and you got yourself one hell of a show)

BUT the powers that be at DC comic were smart and appeased the fan boys/fan girls...

the "doctor" ( well they don't call him the doctor in this tv show)...the captain is going to be played by a well liked ex doctor who companion ..rory..

So with a slight wink and a nod.. I'll let that all slide..

Another thing that slightly troubled me is the casting..
this seems to be one of those shows where the producer or writer brings in his/her people from previous shows...joss wheton is famous for reusing actors in his new projects.

So this show has that superman guy.. it has rory from doctor who.. it has the two guys from prison break...so yeah I wondered if this was gonna be a quality show or the "b" line up. I wondered if one of the actors was gonna be a diva and act like it was their show.

Ironically the best thing stolen from doctor who was the ideal of this being a character driven show. There is no need for cgi/expensive special effects or grade A actors.
The show is based on the characters and how they interact in their world...do we as the audience really care about them? Are they all just stereotypes?

For example every series now has to feature this "hunger games" wannabee strong female with ninja skills.....so when I saw the character of "white canary"...who use to be black canary.. I thought it was gonna be the same ole same ole song and dance.

and honestly if I want to see a woman beat the crap out of males twice her height and weight...I'll watch xena.

But only a few episodes in ,but I feel like the writers have alliterative motives....I have a sneaky feeling the writers are trying to portray these characters as humans first and then their powers second.

Sure she is a ninja assassin ( aren't they all )... but as the series progresses you get to see her fighting less. The same with the "atom" who has a power suit. The atom loses a piece of the suit in the past and then the next adventure he isn't wearing it.
( which is a nice plot device to save money and get rid of the cgi crap)

The guys from "prison break" are cast as villains ( basically captain cold with a freeze pistol and a guy with a fire gun.. they are quickly stereotyped as thieves.
But we are starting to see their past and their background.
Their strongest power is their humanity and their ability to work as a team/care for one another.

I find the characters all interesting...BUT hate the evil guy...like omg this is the next "hitler" the tyrant that takes over the world...wow boring as watching paint dry..which is a shamelt; This guy has the acting skills of a pro wrestler.

So I decided to IMDB the series and find out more about the actors etc....another cool trick this series picked up from doctor who... the replacement of the cast( companions)...
and it seems like DC comics allowed them to play with a wide variety of their minor characters ( so yeah your not gonna get superman or batman)...but the cast does rotate.

I'm about three episodes in and like the over all show. Hopefully the writers are clever enough to see beyond the whole plot of the evil dictator.. if every episode is about them going back into time at a certain point and foiling his plots, then it becomes ...wash/rinse and repeat television.

When It Comes To The Comic Book Superheros My Preference Is For Animation As Opposed To Live Actors. For Example Hugh Jackman As Wolverine- Or Any Other Actor- Cannot Match Up To The Marvel Comics Vision. Also It Is Sooooo Tiresome To SEE Pretty Victoria Secret Type Female Models With Pipestem Arms Like Myself- Fighting And Beating Up Hulk Hogan Type Brutes!
