Drip drip drip...better than freezing pipes Ive lived in my current house for over 12 yrs now and never had any problems with the pipes freezing. Hell i even let tge water drip in the basement sink\ lowest water source in the house..( no freeze there)..i go to turn on the kitchen faucette ( mid floor) and the pipe froze...wtf!!!! The water on the top floor was fine....so i was a bit baffled... So I thought i would pass on some advice....when it get around 5 degrees or below open up your sink cabinet doors...remove all the crap in there\...this allows that crawl space under tge sink to warm up to room temp...why is it cold there?..the assclown contractor probably didnt put any insulation in the kitchen wall! So under your sink you offically have a " mini fridge" Next let any faucette that faces an outside wall slowly drip.....sure your wasting a lil water, but its better than having a pipe freeze and then burst on you. If they do freeze you can put a small personal desk heater under the sink for a few hours.... Which didnt help in my case...the pipe froze about floor level...thank God it didnt burst! So remember to drip drip...it could save you hundreds of dollars |

Or i could just come up with a billion dollar idea..a sink that automatically drips when the temp gets too low...but come on...who needs that..lol

That is why i thought id pass on the info....like i said never had that problem in 12 yrs... Then wake up and there was no cold water in the kitchen faucette???? I just thought this small stupid step could save someone ALOT of heartache.... Remember folks..next time it gets cold out put your head under your sink...you too probably are the proud parent of a "mini fridge"...open those doors and empty that cabinet space

I'm trying a new trick. Leaving the pipes in the cabin the way they are. Temperatures are supposed to get down to 4 degrees Saturday. The english basement is halfway below grade. The wall of picture windows face south and get plenty of sun. I left a heater on low in the bathroom, just enough to keep it cozy. The pipes for the kitchen are in the bathroom wall. Since I installed insulated windows, about 20 years ago the pipes haven't frozen even without heat in the place, but temperatures haven't stayed below 14 for any 24-hour stretch. If the pipes survive this, I figure I'm golden. If not, I need a new theory... not to mention new pipes.
