I'm sure country folk are kinkier than we all think....after all, they have plenty of access to whips and chains

I not sure it's become more popular. Being downgraded from a mental illness to a behavior has allowed particpants out of the closet. The story of O, to me was when society changed it's attitude.

I don't know about the Story of O's validation.

Reage's work is a fantasy written in what I am told is really, really good French that offers touches on a psychological aspect of BDSM, that fits into and amplifies the eternal man/woman dynamic: the idea of one party's offering the other everything.

With respect to the other stuff, between a series of novels so weak that they can be read by any warm blooded, fur-bearing animals and a series of movies based on them, you're seeing a lot of proliferation of the physical trappings of domination and submission.

Basically, you can solve the mystery of small-town-hooker BDSM by asking, "Does the lady of the evening have HBO?"

I trust your curiosity on this one.. Quite a bit of fun you can have teasing him on why he felt he could mention the topic with you, and especially what was his motivation... I'm betting he thinks you are a Domme, and he's trying to lure you into commanding wicked activities from him... He spent the last 6 months trying to get you say the words "dominatrix" or "bdsm" and finally, he has found the ploy..

The logistics of that operation must be fascinating. Sounds like a semi-pro operation rather than a pro. She teaches middle school or operates a day-care center the other ten weeks? The sybian converts to a rocking horse, the chains hanging from the ceiling become swings?

How do her clients know which two weeks she's open for business? Does she have a sign in the local barber shop, or just the traditional red light in the window?

If a client shows up on the wrong week does he get turned away or does he get a discreet cut-rate hand job on the front doorstep to tide him over? Sounds like she's enforcing male chastity for ten weeks as part of her BDSM service.

I know Australians have a quixotic sense of humor, but this sounds loopy even for the outback.

    Quoting  :

Actually, the road show was my first assumption, but since you didn't mention that she had a stable of hookers I went with the solo operation.

That still leaves the other questions I have. What does she do with the empty house she presumably owns or at least pays rent on while she's on the road? Doesn't seem very economical to be paying rent or a mortgage on cat houses in six different towns, even in the outback. Carting around a buckboardload of dungeon equipment seems a bit of a stretch as well. Does she rent out the top floor of the local saloon in the rest of the towns she and her girls frequent?

Yee Haa!

This seems redolent of a situation I mentioned in connection with another of your blog posts where I dimly remember comparing you to an old-time frontier cat-house madam. I disremember the details. They do say that the memory is the second thing to go (I can't remember what the first thing is ).
