Curious as to why we still stereotype gay men?

I honestly believe hollywood is to blame for the stereotypes of gay men. But then ofcourse the same could be said of black men or latinos or asians etc.

If you didn't grow up in a diverse community your only conception of someone different is what you see on tv/ the movies.

I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania..there was one color, one sexuality.
The only image of gay people were vague references on tv like the all in the family episode. Everyone assumed the meathead's buddy was gay because he carried a satchel. Then it turned out it was archies bud that was gay.

But the usual stereotype of a gay male was effeminate, slight build, worked as a hairdresser or fashion designer..
He was a great dresser...very anal retentive..very niles crane.
The guys on modern family are a good example of this stereotype.

So people assume that is what a homosexual looks like.

Isnt it akin to showing every black guy on tv as a thug gang banger hussling crack..
Or every asian dude being into some form of martial arts..
Or every italian guy being in the maffia

I think men in general would be more accepting of gay males if such stereotypes stopped.
We all dont drive prius...we all down sit around drinking lattes

Plenty of us work 9-5 blue collar jobs, luv football, lift weights, drive trucks, fish and hunt, drink beer etc.
About the only difference between me and alot of guys is what im attracted to

Gays come in all shapes and sizes...im just really surprised hollywood continues to put people into stereotyped boxes.
I think stereotypes really divide people and cause hatred/ fear...funny how hollywood is to blame.

Imagine how easier life would be for gay teens if there were shows where the gay characters didnt stick out like sore thumbs/ outsiders. That the show didnt revolved around their being..omg..gay..that there didnt need to be special episodes where the character comes out. ( cringe worthy tv)

I know i would have been cooler with my sexuality if the gay character wasnt always shown as the victim...why cant he be just the average ..

I mean folks this is 2019. Can we have shows where the character just happens to be gay...without resorting to a gay character stereotype. Do we really need to keep up the modern family style of gay men on tv?

Turn on one of the "queer eye" TV shows, it will make you sick, some of those guys are over the top stereotypical panzies, really. Enough to turn anyone off, hopefully it's all BS for ratings or something, but it only reinforces what you're talking about here.
